Animal discipline was founded in 1952, is an important national animal science personnel training base. Admissions for master and doctoral students began in 1998 and 2000, respectively. Key disciplines of Zoology in Hebei Province completed in 2001. The key disciplines of zoology in Hebei Province and the key disciplines of national zoology (cultivation) were established in 2001 and 2007, respectively.

There are 14 master's tutors, including 8 professors and 6 associate professors. Major has two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the field of invertebrate systems. Representative academic achievements include: Fauna Sinica (Vol.35, 57), The Fauna of Hebei, China, The spider of China, English-Chinese Dictionary of Zoology, etc.

There are currently five research directions, Arachnology and Animal Geography, Entomology Systems and Diversity, Animal Molecular Biology and Application, Animal Behavior and Neural Regulation, Animal Conservation Biology.

Major courses include: Principles and methods of animal classification, Zoology research methods and technology, Biogeography, Molecular evolutionary biology, Molecular biology experimental technology, Arachnology, Insect taxonomy, Photomicrography and image processing, Research progress in Zoology, etc.
