This discipline has formed advantages and characteristics in global change ecology, aquatic biodiversity protection, prevention and control of exotic pests, degradation mechanisms and ecological restoration methods of degraded ecosystems(grassland and wetland)), . Taking temperate grasslands in northern China and important waters or wetland ecosystems in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as the research objects, researches focus on basic ecological theory and its applicationaround the needs of national economic construction and production practice. It also focuses on the impacts and responses of global changes and human activities on grassland and wetland ecosystems, studies their interaction and adaptation mechanisms of aquatic communities and environmental factors, quantifies the structure and function of water ecosystems, evaluate ecosystem health, develops ecological restoration technologyfor improving ecosystem services; Carrying out biodiversity protection, especially studying the biological learning characteristics, life history characteristics of birds, and their impact on the ecological environment and environmental response and feedback mechanisms; Studying the relationship between plants and plants, plants and animals, research and develop plant ecological protection technologies; conserving and effectively developing resources of medicinal plants and herbaceous plants.
The discipline currently has been supported by four undergraduate majors(including biological sciencesbiotechnology, bioengineering and bioinformatics) a national key (cultivation) discipline(zoology), three provincial key disciplines, one provincial and ministerial key laboratory, and three provincial key laboratories. It also has a teaching demonstration base, a teaching experiment center, a provicial excellent academic and teaching team of zoology. This discipline is composed of 18 professional and technical personnel, and The research fields of the disciplines involve global change ecology, zoological ecology, botany ecology and aquatic ecology .
The main courses offered are: ecological principles and practice, ecological monitoring and evaluation, wetland ecology, restoration ecology, plant resource selection and utilization, quantitative ecology, chemical ecology, conservation ecology, and modern biological technology, et al.
